Grey Welsh Mountain Pony from Shropshire

A4 portrait commission completed in graphite pencil

The first of the equine commissions and having grown up in the saddle myself, I was eager to get stuck into this commission and loved capturing the suppleness of the leather tack against the coat of the cheeky pony. I concentrated on conveying the thinness of the skin and how close the bone is to the surface on a ponies’ head with a thin coat of fine hairs leading to a chunky muscular neck.
